About Dr. Junkas


Kristin Junkas, a native of Minnesota, obtained her B.A. degree in chemistry and biology at Luther College in Decorah, IA and her DVM from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996.

After completing a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at the University of Illinois in Champaign, she pursued postgraduate training in internal medicine, with a subspecialty of oncology. During her internship/residency training, she participated in clinical referral service, clinical instruction of senior veterinary students, and research concentrating in the area of canine lymphoma and treatment protocols.

Dr. Junkas moved to Chicago in 1998 and joined the staff of the Melrose Park Animal Hospital where she pursued both general practice as well as oncology referral practice. In 2003, Kristin also served as managing veterinarian at the Melrose Park Animal Hospital until joining the Wright Animal Hospital team in February 2005.

Dr. Junkas enjoys working with both her animal patients and their owners equally. She is dedicated to providing quality care with compassion and understanding, while tailoring treatments to each individual and situation. Special interests have led her to develop skills in exotic animal medicine/surgery as well as surgical laser techniques that complement her general practice.
