About Wright Animal Hospital

Wright Animal Hospital was founded in 1954 by Dr. Thompson T. Wright. Since its purchase by Drs. Bruce Kramer and Frederick Drazner in 1981, the Wright Animal Hospital has become one of the pre-eminent Veterinarian Clinics in Northern Illinois. It is also one of the most well equipped facilities in the United States! The latest in laboratory and radiographic equipment including an EKG machine, fibreoptic endoscopy equipment for viewing internal areas such as the stomach, bronchial passages, nasal cavities, and the colon, and an electroencephalographic (EEG) machine for aiding in the diagnosis of neurological disorders, make the Wright Animal Hospital unique.

Wright Animal Hospital contains a number of specialized departments to assist in the treatment of your dog or cat. These include:

  • Medicine – Focusing on both preventive and curative aspects of Veterinary services, the Medicine Department handles vaccinations, testing for internal parasites, heartworm testing, and other areas dedicated to making and keeping your dog or cat healthy and well.
  • For those patients requiring intensive care, Wright Animal Hospital has specialized cages containing piped in oxygen, a continuous reading EKG oscilloscope, and licensed animal health technicians specifically assigned to given pets.

  • Surgery and Anesthesia – In addition to routine surgical procedures such as ovairohysterectomies, castrations, and declaws, the Doctors at Wright Animal Hospital perform more intricate procedures such as gastrointestinal, bladder, orthopedic, and thoracic operations.
  • All surgery is conducted under strict aseptic conditions. In addition to the foot operated scrub sink, each surgeon uses new surgical gloves, gown, mask, and cap. Each procedure also uses a freshly sterilized instrument pack. The surgical suite is restricted to a single operating table to insure aseptic conditions as well as anesthetic safety. Your pet’s health is guarded by first class equipment including an EKG monitor, a pulse meter, a blood pressure monitor, and an electrosurgery machine to minimize blood loss.

Cryosurgery, the use of super cooled liquid nitrogen to freeze tumors and other liaisons, is another unique tool used by Wright Animal Hospital. This technique is especially useful in older dogs and in patients whose tumors are inoperable using conventional surgery.

  • Clinical Pathology – Our up-to-date laboratory insures a rapid diagnosis of many illnesses. Through an in house automated blood cell counter, our Doctors are provided with a complete blood count within minutes of drawing a sample. Other laboratory services include blood chemistries, complete microbiological testing, and facilities for complete urinalysis and stool examinations.

  • Radiology – Wright Animal Hospital uses the new rare-earth x-ray screen and automated film processor to provide consistent, high quality, uniform radiographs. Some of the uses of this equipment include crystography and pneumocystography (for studying the urinary bladder), intravenous pyelography (kidney analysis), non-selective angiocardiography (heart study), and gastrointestinal analysis using barium sulfate.
  • Our “state of the art,” General Electric Book ultrasound machine allows for rapid, sonographic examinations of your pets. This cutting edge equipment furthers our ability to diagnose and treat your pet by analyzing liver, prostate, pancreatic, and cardiac conditions overlooked by conventional x-ray equipment.

  • Pharmacy – The Wright animal Hospital’s complete, computerized pharmacy containing over 800 drugs and vitamins provides clients with the convenience of obtaining their pet’s prescriptions on site.

Other services provided by Wright Animal Hospital include:

  • Emergency Services – Wright Animal Hospital provides 24 hour per day, 365 day per year emergency service consultation. Our doctors will respond to emergency calls with either medical advice or a referral to a specialized emergency clinic.

  • Therapeutic Bathing and Dipping – Medicinal baths and insecticide dips are provided for treatment of bacterial infections of the skin as well as for parasitic conditions such as fleas, ticks, and mange.

  • Boarding – Reservation only, limited boarding services are available for dogs and cats requiring medication such as insulin, cardiac medications, or anticonvulsants. Daily records are maintained regarding your pet’s general condition, temperature, appetite, bowel movements, and urinary habits.
