Pets, especially dogs, love eating vegetation. Unfortunately, some of it can be very toxic to our pets. Although the different number of “bad” plants can be quite voluminous, the two families of plants most often found to harm our pets are from the Rhododendron and Ornamental plant groupings.
- The Rhododendron family includes:
- Lily Of The Valleys
- Azalea
- Laurel
- Foxglove
- Milkweeds
- Ornamentals include:
- Chinese Lantern
- Christmas Cherry
- Pepper Plant
Some of the symptoms from ingesting a poisonous plant include:
- Mouth or skin irritation
- Drooling
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fast, difficult breathing
- Staggering
- Muscle tremors
- Seizures
- Coma
I you believe your pet has eaten a poisonous plant or exhibits any of the above symptoms, call your Veterinarian or Emergency Pet Care Center immediately!
