It is not the intention of the Wright Animal Hospital to create paranoia, but pets are like small children: they try to please and love you, but they also can be mischievous! This section of our website is devoted to promoting an understanding of frequent “challenges” presented by our pets.
Symptoms of pet poisoning include acute vomiting, collapsing, violent muscular twitching, fits, weakness, and bleeding. Immediate actions should include:
- Prevent further poisons from being swallowed
- Contact your Veterinarian of Pet Emergency Care facility immediately
- Wash of the pet’s coat if you believe it may be contaminated by a poison
- Gather all evidence of what you believe your pet swallowed for the Veterinarian’s review
If you believe your pet may have been poisoned, gather all available information, including the name of the suspected poison agent, and call your Veterinarian or Emergency Pet Care Center immediately!
Poisons can take the form of many unsuspecting agents including pesticides, plants, cleaning agents... and even chocolates!
